The addition of a farmersí market at the Chrysalis Center on Homestead Avenue will bring the number of such markets in Hartford up to seven ó eight, if you include the one at the regional market.
This breaks down to two markets in downtown, two in Frog Hollow, and one each in the Upper Albany, West End, and North East neighborhoods. Hartfordís Regional Market is in the South Meadows.
While the Billings Forge Farmersí Market operates year-round, others will be starting their seasons shortly.
On June 27th the North End Farmersí Market opening celebration will include music by the Congo Square Ramblers, face painting for children, and a cooking demonstration.
The North End Farmersí Market and the one at Billings Forge both double the amount of SNAP or food stamp benefits, motivating consumers to make healthier grocery choices.
There is a market somewhere in Hartford every day this season:
On June 23rd there will be a special one-day farmersí market near the Pond House in Elizabeth Park during Rose Weekend from 11-2.
Information compiled from Department of Agriculture, Hartford Farmersí Markets, and press releases from those running various farmersí markets.
