Red White and Blue Response

Steve Goode

July 28, 2010

Last week we reported the theft of an American flag flying over the Barry Square neighborhood. In that story Hyacinth Yennie of the Maple Avenue Revitalization Group - also known as MARG - made a request for a donation to replace the flag.

Hyacinth just called Cityline to say thanks to all those who donated flags and others who offered to do so.

Among those who made donations were Barbara Ruhe, a Wethersfield resident running for state senate, Congressman John Larson's office, Wethersfield resident Nancy Doyle, the city's public works department, the Hartford Fire Department's fire prevention division and Amanda Munroe, a nurse at Hartford Hospital.

The West Hartford American Legion also donated a hand made flag that Hyacinth says will be put on display in the South End Senior Center. She has plans for placing the other flags too...and says the city will soon be installing a lock on the flag pole so the Stars and Stripes don't get lifted again.
