Resident Bruce Rubenstein has formally announced his move to run for chairman of the city's Democratic Town Committee.

In a letter to be mailed to the committee and various elected officials, Rubenstein came out strong against Mayor Eddie A. Perez "and his henchman, Democratic Town Committee Chair Sean Arena."

The letter takes shots at Arena's ability to "get out the vote" in the recent election, and at the "continuing, parasitic corruption, negligence and incompetence coming from city hall." Rubenstein, a lawyer, said he pledges to "usher in a new honest democracy and [to] demand transparency." The town committee election is in early 2010.

Arena declined to comment Friday.
