Pastor Stan At City Hall

By Jeffrey B. Cohen

October 05, 2009

J. Stan McCauley stood in front of city hall with a broom and a couple dozen supporters to announce his 2011 candidacy for mayor today.

"I'm a little bit sick and tired of being sick and tired," McCauley -- known as Pastor Stan -- told a gathering of roughly two dozen supporters who stood behind him. "I'm sick and tired being used and abused by an administration that is out of control."

He pointed to what he said were declining youth and park services before taking a shot at Mayor Eddie A. Perez -- who was arrested for the second time this year last month.

"Nowhere else in the country are you allowed to be arrested twice and there is no outrage by the citizenry," McCauley said, using the broom as a symbol to help "sweep" out city hall. "The days of scare tactics and intimidation are over. The people of Hartford will no longer sit back idly and quietly and treat it as business as usual."

McCauley, who ran and lost for mayor in 2007 as a Republican, is running this time as a Democrat. Kevin Brookman is his campaign manager.
