Arena To Form Exploratory Committee For Possible Mayoral, City Council Run

Sean P. Arena, chairman of the Hartford Redevelopment Agency, said tonight that he plans to take out papers Monday to form an exploratory committee to run for mayor of Hartford, the city council or city treasurer in November.

Although he is not sure which position he will run for, Arena, a Democrat, said he is leaning toward a run for city council.

The council took up a resolution tonight naming Arena as a replacement for Matthew Ritter, who resigned from the panel on Jan. 3 and was sworn in as a state legislator two days later. The resolution failed with three "yes" votes and four abstentions. A candidate must secure five votes to get on the council.

More on that in tomorrow's Courant.
