Students To Be Honored As Fox Foundation Scholars

Eighteen public high school students with varied interests in law, medicine, science and business are being honored today as this year's Fox Foundation Scholars.

Each of the students is eligible to receive up to $12,000 in scholarship funds. The students will receive their awards at a breakfast celebration at the Town and Country Club.

The Fox Foundation was established by Hartford Public High School graduate, attorney and longtime Hartford Board of Education member Lewis Fox in memory of his father, Jacob L. Fox. The foundation has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors at Hartford public schools since 1937.

Students are chosen by foundation trustees based on their scholastic achievement, leadership, character, concern for others and spirit of reverence. The scholars, by school, are:

Bulkeley High School

Maria Aguilera, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, peer teacher in a sex risk awareness program. Pursuing career in business.

Gresa Ajeti, National Honor Society member, debate team, tennis team, peer teacher in a sex risk awareness program. Studying medicine.

Eliana Alvarez, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, staff member "Torch" high school newspaper. Interest in international relations, political science.

Brian Carvalho, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, biodiesel fuel student at the Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science. Studying biology.

Donias Doko, National Honor Society member, peer teacher in sex risk awareness program, biodiesel fuel student at Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science. Taking pre-medical courses in college.

Jonida Shtembari, National Honor Society member, president Young Educator Society, peer teacher in sex risk awareness program. Studying political science.

Weaver High School

Britney-Ann Chung, president community outreach club, soccer team, recipient of the Wise Travel award. Studying mathematics and pre-law in college.

Ashley Daley, National Honor Society member, member UConn Law Connection, math club. Preparing career as a lawyer.

Ashantee Hyman, National Honor Society member, member Senior Class Cabinet, Human Relations Club. Pre-medical student in college.

Damilola Odumosu, National Honor Society member, Human Relations Club, track and field team. Preparing for medical school.

Danielle Williams, National Honor Society member, Student Council, peer teacher in sex risk awareness program. Seeking career in nursing and psychology.

Micaelia Wright, National Honor Society member, Student Council, Human Relations Club. Studying biology and pharmacology.

Hartford Public High School

Steve Basora, Mass Mutual academic achiever, tutor High Hopes Achievement Program. Preparing career as physician's assistant.

Kayla Johnson, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, tennis team, cross-country team manager. Studying computer engineering in college.

Roger Lu, National Honor Society Member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, student Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science. Studying medicine.

Carlos Miranda, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, swim team, soccer team, tennis team. Studying accounting.

Kally Moquette-Gonzalez, National Honor Society member, Mass Mutual academic achiever, tennis team captain. Pursuing career in social work.

Pierre Plath, student Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science, middle school science tutor. Interest in pharmacology, biology and engineering.
