Hartford's Colt Complex Gets New Tenant

December 13, 2012

The historic Colt complex in Hartford just got a new tenant. WNPR's Jeff Cohen reports.

The Colt has been in development limbo for years, and it's gone through a series of developers. But things are looking up. One floor has apartments. Others have a school. One of the buildings has a new roof...

And another has a new tenant -- a Glastonbury company called Foley Carrier Services has taken 17,000 square feet in what is known as the South Armory. The move brings 110 jobs to Hartford now, and will add 70 more in the years to come. Governor Dannel Malloy:

"We are playing a role in growing really first-class jobs here in the capital city in a complex that a lot of people thought would never get to this point. And this is just the beginning."

The development needed about $500,000 from the state to help fit the space out -- the latest drop in what is a decade of state investment in the capital city. Meanwhile, streetscape improvements are planned for the surrounding neighborhood around the Colt complex. The city of Hartford says those could happen next year.
