The first restaurant to open in Hartford in 2013 will be Café Colt at 140 Huyshope Avenue in the historic Colt Armory complex. The restaurant will open next Monday.

Colt Cafe is the first eatery to open at one of the City’s largest redevelopment projects and will provide food and beverage operation to the 500 people who live and/or work at the Colt Complex. Café Colt is also the latest sign of continued progress at the Coltsville project.

Café Colt is part of a larger vision, called the “Colt Culinary Project”, and aimed at providing restaurant and catering service, event and meeting space, employment and education through partnerships with local schools and neighborhood groups. This is expected to be a boost to Colt Gateway as part of the basic infrastructure needed in a development project of this magnitude. The Café will serve breakfast items, coffee, teas lattes, sandwiches, soups, salads, baked goods and an assortment of beverages. The catering operation produces everything from corporate lunches to high-end events. The owners also plan to open a large full service restaurant as part of the next phase of the project, when demand warrants and, once space becomes available at Colt Gateway.

The Managing Director of The Colt Culinary Project is Chef Harry Schwartz, who along with his wife Laurie brought back to life and recreated and brought back to life a defunct historic vineyard in Southeast Connecticut Called Heritage Trail.
