Allegro’s: The Tradition Continues

Popular Franklin Avenue eatery moves on after death of founder

Hartford News

February 26, 2009

This August, it will be 35 years since Giuseppe Misseri opened Allegro’s Restaurant on Franklin Avenue. Giuseppe himself worked behind the counter for over 20 years and continued to work almost every day until his passing last Saturday.

John Speziale, his son-in-law, vows that the family will continue the tradition of service to the community – ready with hot coffee and a good breakfast or lunch no matter what the weather.

In fact, Paul, Giuseppe’s son, opened the restaurant just hours after his father’s early morning death, saying “people expect us to be open, they need our food and drink on the way to work.” He did close the restaurant for the wake and funeral. Allegro’s is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch.
