It's A Do-Over

Steve Goode

March 30, 2010

A Democratic State Central Committee panel convened to hear a dispute over the Hartford Democratic Town Committee chairman's election has ruled that the town committee must vote again. The decision rescinded the vote last month to elect Jean Holloway as the new chair, replacing incumbent Sean Arena.

Holloway's lawyers argued that state party rules, which allow for a chairman to vote twice to break a tie, as was the case with Ramon Arroyo's two votes for her, supercede local voting rules.

Arena argued that state party rules apply only when local rules are not in effect and that parlimentarian John Gale correctly ruled that no chairman could vote twice.

So silly season continues on the Hartford Democratic Town Committee, which is expected to hold a new election for chair and vice chair in the next 10 days. Look for a full account on line and in the new skinnier print version tomorrow.
