HARTFORD —— Several public safety functions have been relocated to the city's new 150,000-square-foot public safety complex on High Street.

City officials said that, as of Wednesday, the 311 call center, 911 dispatch center, traffic division, school crossing guards, parking control, fire department administrative offices, and fire marshals and inspectors had moved to the new complex.

The major crimes division, juvenile investigative division, internal affairs, crime scene division, civil litigation, advocate office and the police chief's office will be relocated during the first week of December, officials said. The fiscal and payroll offices and the personnel, planning and accreditation offices also will move that week.

Patrol operations, booking and detention and the records division will operate from the current police headquarters at 50 Jennings Road until early January, Police Chief James Rovella said.

All department phone numbers and e-mail addresses will remain the same, he said.

Mayor Pedro Segarra said residents and visitors would benefit from the new, more central location, which is "dedicated to facilitating calls, and ultimately, keeping our city safe."

"This is the first time in the City of Hartford's history that the fire department, police department and emergency services and telecommunications will be housed under one roof," the mayor said. "It's another step towards improving communication among all city departments, a top priority for my administration."

The $77 million facility includes a two-level parking garage, the emergency operations center, the state's backup emergency operations center and separate lockups for men and women.
