Arts Stimulus Funds Awarded

The city has awarded more than $1 million to 23 local artists and organizations as part of its arts stimulus program.

The money comes from the city, which is also awaiting another $600,000 in federal funds to be used for the program. The recipients were chosen by a 10-member panel and the money will be administered by the Greater Hartford Arts Council.

The recipients are:

A rtists Collective, arts festival and jazz series, $61,065.

Asylum Hill Congregational Church, concert series, $10,000.

Billings Forge Community Works, galleries, $54,150.

Charter Oak Cultural Center, youth arts institute, $100,000.

Connecticut Choral Artists, cabaret series, $17,550.

Connecticut Guitar Society, music series, $14,900.

Anne Cubberly, puppet show, $10,000.

Cultural Dance Troupe of the West Indies, dance event, $10,000.

Family Day Enterprises, annual event, $10,000.

Adrienne Gale, youth employment, $75,000.

Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz, music event, $32,500.

Guakia, event, $32,500.

HartBeat Ensemble, theater, $60,000.

Hartford Business Improvement District, arts, $39,000.

Hartford Children's Theatre, restoration, $65,000.

Hartford City Ballet, after-school program, $30,000.

Hartford Public Access Television, youth employment, $30,000.

Institute for Community Research, artists' co-op, $35,000.

Judy Dworin Performance Project, $16,380.

Our Piece of the Pie/Hartford Stage, youth employment, $100,000.

Riverfront Recapture, signage, $100,000.

Sankofa Kuumba Cultural Arts Consortium, event, $16,250.

Wadsworth Atheneum, exhibit, $100,000.
