HartfordInfo.org, has begun developing a set of "widgets" which will allow users to use interactive mapping to explore data about specific themes. The widget narrows the number of data layers that are available while maintaining interactivity, such as zooming and panning (moving the map left or right).
Our first widget is on the theme of Housing and Foreclosures, and displays data by census tract on numbers of residential foreclosures in Hartford, along with data about the types of housing, high cost loans, as well as others. Click here to view the foreclosure widget.
The second widget concerns Demographics - the number and types of people who live in the city. Click here to view the demographics widget.
The third widget concerns Income. Click here to view the income widget.
The fourth widget concerns Poverty. Click here to view the poverty widget.
The fifth widget concerns Education. Click here to view the education widget.
The sixth widget concerns Literacy. Click here to view the literacy widget. Future widgets may include the following topic areas: - Health
- Public Safety and Crime
- Voting
Widgets are intended to be easy to use. You can zoom in and out using the slider, move around the region by clicking, holding down and dragging your mouse. You can superimpose additional layers of data, like homeownership rate or school locations by using the menu on the left.
